A Day In The Life JWW Festival 2021

2021

A day in the life: Fall out of bed, comb your hair, drink coffee, be late, rush to the bus, smoke a cigarette, hear someone talking—and off to dreamland. Is that all? It can also be like this: Get up, drink coffee, play an instrument, alone and with others, practice, practice, practice, write songs, tinker with sounds, work away in a quiet little room – and off to the stage!

A DAY IN THE LIFE is the name given by JazzWerkstatt Wien to the 2021 festival's edition. The program is varied, with room for jazz and improvisation as well as electronica and pop. The range of venues is also wide, from the idyllic banks of the Danube to dignified jazz clubs and cult indie venues. The basic concept remains the same: artists curate themselves and invite their colleagues, challenging them to try new things and juxtaposing seemingly contradictory styles. The connecting element is playing as a poetic routine, the belief in music as work on a dream. A DAY IN THE LIFE—the Beatles song of the same name about fragments of events and the daily grind—serves as a guiding light and motto. We all spend our days differently, and each one ends on a different chord.
